Get it Done!

Get it Done!

We’ve all been there. You have an ever-important task looming over you, with the due date fast approaching, but no matter what you do, you just can’t seem to find the motivation to actually get started! What do you do?! Well, first of all, you plan!

Planning and list making are my holy grails for productivity. To get me on the road to productivity, I like to give myself a couple of minutes to quickly dot point all of the tasks I need to do that day in my daily planner, being sure to prioritise the important tasks. This gives me a visualisation of what I can expect to accomplish or at least aim for that day. Don’t be unrealistic with your lists though; there are only so many hours in a day!

Once you have your list or plan ready for the day, make sure you have a nice and quiet environment to work in. It is much easier to get things done without the TV blaring in the background or people around you trying to talk to you. The goal here is to minimise distractions, so it might also be a good idea to put your phone on silent or turn it off while you are working.

When it is time to get started, if I am still struggling, I like to use a little trick to help me along. I will tell myself I only need to do the task for 5 minutes. For that time, I work as hard as I can and try to really make every minute count, and normally by the end of the 5 minutes I will happily continue working, as I have already made it over the initial intimidation of getting started.

In the end though, it all comes down to discipline. Sometimes you just gotta do it!

What’s your favourite way to get in the zone?
